Michael Jones is a composer, performer, and educator whose work bridges contemporary classical, jazz, and popular music traditions. His compositions explore the intersection of complexity and clarity, creating music that is both intellectually engaging and expressively meaningful. His works have been performed nationally by university and professional ensembles, and he continues to compose, arrange, and perform across multiple genres.
A dedicated educator, Michael has taught music theory, ear training, core musicianship, composition, and commercial music at the undergraduate level. Michael holds a Bachelor of Music in Composition from Southeast Missouri State University, a Master of Music in Composition from San Diego State University, and is ABD toward a Doctor of Musical Arts in Composition at the University of Memphis. He also studied at Berklee College of Music. His principal teachers include Robert Fruehwald, Joseph Martin Waters, and Kamran Ince, with additional study under Don Lappin and Sheryl Bailey. His work as an artist and educator is informed by his Christian faith, modeling integrity, service, and a commitment to excellence in both music and mentorship.
